New swingarm? Don't judge....
Hey guys, me again. I've been hearing rumors that there is a kit that changes out the rear swingarm to fit larger tires, up to 160s, but I can't find anything. Anyone have any clue what I'm talking about?
Before the purists jump inside my butt, this would be going on my cafe racer, which despite the name is purely a looks-only bar hopper project. |

I used these. I had to shorten the swing arm first because they gave more than my racing rules allowed. I love em.

Oops. My bad. But it does put the wide part at that back. I think I could get a 160 tire in there. I have a 140 with no worries.there is at least enough room for a 190

Just swap in a NewGen swingarm? I think 160 will be close, but my VRossi wheel with a 150/60ZR17 Pilot Power fits with plenty of room.
I'm not sure if 17" wheels would throw off your plans, or how easy it would be to put the older 16" wheels on the new swingarm. The PreGen and NewGen aren't quite as different as the Gen1 and Gen2 EX500...

No need for 16'' wheels but if you throw a smaller rear sprocket on and get the rear wheel back for added space, you can get a different wheel and phatter tire on the back with the stock swingarm. ijs...

If you can just bump the wheel back a bit with a different sprocket or chain and get enough clearance, that's probably a whole lot easier though.

Well I'm 6'5", so I already look goofy riding it. Plus its kind of my "toy" bike I bring out to bike nights, and to let people borrow when a bunch of us go riding. I love the look of it (blue collar bobber kit, custom paint job, woodcraft extended bars, dropped pegs, cruiser tires, etc.), it just needs that little push to make it perfect. I know already that its purely cosmetic.

If the chain will clear the tire I could have a shop chop and reweld the existing swingarm. Not really a huge deal. I asked about the kit because as of right now, this isn't a huge priority to me, as I already have a sport bike and a cruiser for real riding. My ninja is purely my special little baby.

It's basically a wider swingarm to accommodate a 5.5" wheel... I think... They also sell a front wheel + rear wheel + swingarm combo... Will have to go through the set to find it... I'll have a look and post it here.

So yeah guys, I'll probably be on for a little while longer, but in case anyone has any thoughts on the issue I'll probably get back to you tomorrow. I know its asking a question thats been asked a million times for various reasons, but as far everything goes, I just need it to be relatively mechanically simple to install (any fabricated parts can be outsourced) and reliable for everyday commuting style riding.
I'd generally be able to figure this out on my own but I'm in a huge time sink work project so I'm crowd sourcing ideas. Pretty much every search I've done on this issue is a bunch of technical crap about how its bad for handling and blah blah I already know that and I've made my peace with it. I know other people have done it. |

That'd be awesome man, I really appreciate it. The front I'm cool with, so if I need to buy the rear wheel/swingarm its no big deal. This is pretty much the last thing I need to complete the bike.

In this YouTube video, the person spells out which parts you need. As I understand him, he used parts from the 636.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CbSKiYlPYCo The 2008+ swing arm is bolt in for the pregen, so the 636 should bolt in as well- I believe.
