group ride crash in my neck of the woods this weekend

http://www.journal-news.com/news/new...?__federated=1

Apparently a motorcycle pile-up happened, hard to get a feel for what exactly caused it but when you ride that tight it's bound to happen sooner or later.

Bummer. Glad I wasn't there. I ride with huge groups but we always ride super relaxed. Probably slower than auto traffic.

Safety comes first especially with group ridding.

Cruisers have a hard time maneuvering compared to sportbikes. And they are usually ridden by less experienced riders doing it for the image.

I don't think that's accurate at all, just a bad stereotype as @BlownWideOpen just said. I know a fair number of cruiser riders that are great riders and they do it for the same reason we do.

I will say that they tend to ride far to close and sometimes side by side.

Hopefully all the injured riders heal up fast.

I can't imagine these guys were going that hard. Groups of cruisers tend to move slower than car traffic.

All the ones in my area are pretty bad.
But it is a fact that cruisers cant maneuver like a sportbike.

Also the article said a bunch of them ran from the scene so obviously guilty of something. Would never leave an injured rider behind.

Sure, but let's not go there and respect those who had a less than expected ride that day.

Seems it's been a tough end of season for all.

I was not referring to the maneuverability.

Just out of curiosity, do you think no sportbikes are ridden by less experienced riders doing it for the image?

No I think a lot of sportbike riders are equally into it for the image. Anyways My opinion and I'm not forcing it on anyone.

Honestly if your first name isn't Rojo and last name Racing and your on a motorcycle then your doing it for the image and lack the needed skills. So if you don't fit the bill then you shouldn't be riding....period.

And where did you gather this pearl of wisdom? Have anything other than opinion to back this up? Pretty broad statement, considering it includes all cruisers and all sport bikes. While it may not be a "typical" cruiser, the CMX250 (Honda Rebel 250) is very easy to maneuver given it's low center of gravity and light weight. I can do figure 8s in the MSF "box" with several feet to spare on all sides.

Haha let's not get pedantic. Surely it's obvious he's referencing the typical 600-900 lbs cruiser and 390-460 lbs sports bike. When's the last time you saw a gang of 250cc cruisers?

Here's a guy on a big cruiser. Wonder how much better he could run the course on a sportbike?

I don't think I could do this on my 250. Police officers on Bike have some serious skill it would seem.

but on the note of the thread I have no idea what would have caused this except for maybe somone trying to show off when his skill didn't permit it, or alcohol and riding both usually end poorly when in group riders.

lets up for a speedy recovery for all those who were injured.

End of season seems to brig out a lot of people who maybe havent ridden during season...and want to get a last good ride in before winter. We had 3 crashes that I know about last weekend.
IMHO...never seen a crew of sports riding less than 20 over, never seen a big crew of cruisers safely separated from each other.
Here's something I never knew.....the reason for the copters is because the nearest hospital may not be able to treat internal injury...so they fly you to one that can...it's not necessarily because you're hurt that bad...more because they dont know how bad you're hurt. Nice idea.
