New Rider and loving it!
I'm a new rider. I am 25. I wanted a bike since I was 18 and had the money but I spent it on other things. I now once again saved up the money and bought a 2004 Ninja 250 to learn well before upgrading to a 650. I have practiced here in my parking lot and only have enough space to hit 22 mph. Best 22 mph of my life. I will be riding in an empty street soon and eventually work my way up to a regular street. I am taking it slow and in no rush to hit high speeds.
Before life ends, Some people want to climb Mount Everest, some want to go to Disney Land, some people want to visit Paris. Me, I want to ride a motorcycle. I look forward to learning a lot from everyone here. |

Best thing you can do for yourself would be to enroll in an MSF course, that is the an awesome way to learn many things that you'll need to use on the road.
Welcome to the Forum. |

I would love to take the MSF course. The only problem is that I am in my last semester of graduating with my degree and I happen to have a Friday class that is also the MSF course training days Friday-Sunday. Right after being handed my degree, I'm going straight to the MSF class in my Cap and Gown (of course with my protective gear under the gown)

I have already been riding for about a month and just yesterday I fell completely in love with it. The first few days was becoming familiar with the handling and braking, getting past the fear of the unknown and new experiences, switching out old parts, having my wife follow behind me in her car going 20 mph on 30 mph neighborhood until I got comfortable at higher cruising speeds. Last night was a wonderful cruise in an empty street late at night. My shifting is now smooth, switching lanes not as scary, and good take offs in 1st gear. Best 45 mph of my life. I just want to ride my bike everywhere I go now. Can you all remember your "honey moon" stage? People at work now want a motorcycle as well. I feel compelled to inform them of the extreme importance of safety gear. I have already had a few very scary incidents. Thank God, no accidents.

Glad your enjoying the experience of riding like the rest of us are.
The honeymoon lessens but never ends as your always looking for ways to get on the bike and ride. The one thing you'll want to do is ride with your high beams on full time as it is a life saver for the biker and an annoyance for a car to do, anything we can do to make ourselves more visible the more likely we are to make it home at the end of the day. I have come close to a few accidents with just my low beams so now it is full time high beams, there is nothing worse to hear from someone than the "i didn't see you comment". |

You remind me of me and I'm sure many people can relate. I remember picking up my first bike 1996 Seca II XJ600, bald tires, clogged carbs, slipping transmission and a battery that would need to be on tender every night otherwise I wouldn't be able to ride without bump starting it. Yes it was garbage, but it was mine. I worked up from parking lots to around the block and taking the backroads to the MSF class and loved everysecond of it, you have an advantage as well a nice running ninja 250. I got rid of the SECA a while after getting it and then I waited and well now I have 3 bikes. I love it; my girlfriend doesn't quite get it yet but I'm hoping she is willing to learn on the ninja 250 I got her. Stay safe and remember Shinny Side Up.

Just hit my first 1,000 miles! 1,000 miles in one year! I am sure this coming year I will get many more. My current job is farther from home, speed limit ranges from 40-60. I have more office space to put my gear. It all fits in my desk. I am licensed, insured. I have gotten to ride my motorcycle a lot more the past months.
I have recently been using ear protection and it makes riding much more enjoyable. I used to get intimidated by the wind at higher speeds. Because I can hear the wind, I can "feel" the wind more. With ear protection, I hear it at a lower volume and it becomes background noise which allows me to focus more on the ride and not the wind. Still loving the 250. 1 year in, not bored of it at all.

Very cool, I know the feeling, i bought my tenere about 7 weeks ago, I am in a new bike stage as well, I'm approaching 4000 miles
If you like riding, it never really goes away, at least in my experience. You'll get there Alway ride with plugs, you'll be able to hear things later in life.

Yeah I know. Had to pick up my son from my mom's after work very often. Then my schedule changed and I got a later shift so my wife picks him up now.
