What stops you from riding

I don't know about you, but almost nothing does. I've ridden with the flu, and in the snow. But the only thing that really stops me is if I'm upset or very tired. Just doesn't feel safe when I can't focus on riding. HOW ABOUT YOU!?

Jack Daniels, and Jack Frost.

I won't leave for work in the rain, but I don't care if they are calling for rain later in the day.

other then that... not much else.

The things that stop me... rain, illness, extreme hot or cold, house work and family time.

I can't work in wet clothes and boots... I've had to finish the ride to work in the rain... and dried off with a few heat guns and the dryer on the sub floor that the janitors use to wash and dry the mops...

but if it's raining when I walk out the door... I'll take the cage.

Can't work from home, what I do it hands on, my hands need to be where the work is.

Rain (UK say no more) and ice since they cut back on salting.
Plus the time it takes to dress up and warm the bike in winter, I've driven to the supermarket in the time it takes just to get going on the bike.
The CX500 custom was much better like that, you could ride straight off from cold like a car and it had big panniers I used it much more frequently than the Ninjette.
In a warm climate not much would stop me.

My dog. He always comes first. And really cold weather, snow, rain/cold... but it's not really the weather that stops me, it's lack of proper gear.

Also one drink is one drink too many to ride...

Unfortunately, arthritis, more and more so as time goes on. I used to go on long road trips of a couple weeks. Now I find even an hour-long ride leaves me aching in my joints and gulping Advil.

For me it was getting the 25-year parking pass for work. I try to ride to work (bikes don't need a a pass to park inside the gate) when the wx is decent, but the parking pass makes it real is easy to take the car for almost any excuse.

Snow and freezing temps that can result in black ice stop me. Traction is nice to have (just ask @Bigballsofpaint). I park my bike for the winter.

Having to carry stuff, or knowing I'll need to later in the day (e.g. shopping trips).

Running late will make me take the car... no time to gear up.

Going someplace where I need to dress well sometimes stops me. Depends on the event and venue. I'll carry clothes and change out of my leathers for something casual, but a jacket and tie is going too far.

Any trip that involves my spouse, who doesn't ride. I do not carry passengers, ever.

40 percent plus chance of rain. I'll ride in the rain if I get caught, but I prefer not to because cleaning the bike is a PITA.

Illness and fatigue. If I'm not focused, I'm not safe.

Distraction, like way too much stress at work.

I don't ride in the rain (on purpose at least) same would go for the snow/ice.

Obviously I wouldn't ride while drinking or being tired.

I would ride when upset though, usually riding makes me feel calm and happy it is stress relieving.

Work, being in a different state than my bike, having to unpack from work, do laundry and repack for work, oh and of course the GA summer afternoon storms that tend to pop up on the rare day off when I can go ride.

Its true, temps below 40 will now stop me due to my ice skating event where i lowsided.

Rain when i leave for work, if i REALLY want to ride though i have overpants and such.

If i need to get dog food or something on the way home (40lb bag).

If were going to my parents/her parents house, because we usually take the dogs.

Thats it really, i usually ride all week to work and back, then on weekends use the car when we have places to go.

Extremely cold. Not a fan of ice, or turning to ice.

Rain. Not as fun when you're soaked to the bone. Dont mind a light rain, just not a monsoon.

Its just dumb in my opinion to ride if you're really sick.

Not much else keeps me off the bike...

My broken wrist... though sometimes it's tempting just to go for a little spin... but I know better. Illicit substances for sure. Sometimes I'll take my car in the summer for a short trip if I JUST showered and don't want to get all sweaty. Same goes for winter if I don't want to layer up to do something for 5 minutes. I've ridden sick as a dog and in the snow as well. Riding usually helps me feel better when I'm sick and I really enjoy riding in the winter as long as I've got enough gear on to stay warm. Looking forward to being able to put dirtbike style handguards on my 919 this winter lol. I enjoy riding in the rain too. I rode through one winter on a baaaaaald rear tire with a battery that barely had enough juice to start the bike on a battery tender. By some magic that tire still had really good traction though... Push starting a freezing cold carbed bike isn't very fun at all. The cold will stop me if it's long distances. My gear is great for around town in below freezing and short rides when its around 45 out, but eventually the cold "soaks through."

My gear.

Since I won't ride without gear if it takes me longer to gear up than to get someplace or if i don't want to deal with my gear when I get there, eh, I don't ride.

Those of you not familiar with LA drivers.. As soon as a single raindrop falls on a windshield, everyone decides to play bumper cars. So I don't ride in rain. Nope.

For my daily commute I will not ride if:

30% chance of rain

temps under 23*

snow

ice

heavy fog

wind gusts over 35 mph

For a short trip:

passengers

cargo
