1999 250 project/beater bike...
Maybe...
Thinking about picking this up. http://cnj.craigslist.org/mcd/5440787386.html May be fun to fix her up and ride. Not 100% happy with the Sporty so this may be a good in between bike till decide on what i want next. I figure i'll get her running and sell the sporty. Then i can start looking for the next. What you guys think?

Only thing about lowering a pregen is the rear shock is so soft, you'll liekly bottom it out often without replacing it with a newgen or ex500 shock

It's possible. You can do it with different dogbones, AKA lowering links.
However, shock replacement with different unit is pretty much a must.

That's what i figured.
But if the shock is that soft i realy should be ok once i sit on it with a 29.3" seat.

Things is my bikes clone, but yea that thing sounds like a great deal. That lower fairing can be had on ebay for $60 or so, handle probably cheaper.

Crap, may not pan out. My boyfriend went and looked at it and it need a lot of work...
Needs.... tires, rear rim is corroded, carbs (they are off and apart), tank needs good cleaning or replacing, front fork seals, levers, lower fairing, prob chain too and probably a battery.

I'm just worried i'll have to put a lot of $$ into it to get it running and it won't be worth it... Not so worried about looks. I can always wait for plastics to pop up.

It's at a motorcycle shop and they won't put the carbs on and sell it running? Sounds like they're trying to dump a problem on two wheels and hoping someone will bite.
I think you should run! Unless you're good with a wrench and get it for $100 and assume it's for parts. If you get it running for cheap: that's a bonus. My 2 cents

My other half is a very good mechanic so it's not the work that worries me.
Its is it worth the parts and time to repair. I'm guessing i can find a running one someplace relatively cheap... IDK.

I think next time we will pass on the cheap-o projects and stick to something that has more value when "fixed". In your case, the finished bike should be worth a bit more than you put into it, but you are smart to be cautious. |

they know what they got, offer $200, if it was that easy they would fix it and flip it. In your case you can put another $3-400 into it and enjoy for a year and
perhaps break even. |

They won't budge. Said if they can't get 500 they'll fix it themselves to sell.
I'm keeping an eye out for another pregen but I'll watch this one and see if they move.

Put a lowering link in my daughters pregen. She really likes it, and despite what people say about it ruining the handling, while it feels different than my ninjette I don't think it handles badly. |
