My Streetfighter Project

So a little while ago I wanted to start to do some mods on my bike and after getting a tonne of ideas from Ivanrules project () I have started things up.

So far I have:

- Removed all fairings
- Removed airbox and installed K&N pod air filter
- removed headlight and instrument cluster
- installed 7" headlight
- acewell 2853 speedo/tacho/instrument lights
- bullet indicators
- led tailight/license plate bracket
- clip on handlebars
- bar end mirrors
- started to remove some brackets from the frame

Currently working a new on fibreglass tail and front fender. Also going to make some covers out of wood to for the brackets on the tank (was too scared to take to it with an angle grinder haha).

Along with this I've got a new muffler with an elbow connection I had made. Unfortunately the ID is a bit too small to fit on the header so will need some work done on it.

Any feedback and ideas you guys can provide are greatly appreciated.

okay think I've figured out the pictures.

Also going to put this drink shaker as a coolant overflow reservoir. cool? I think so anyway.

I got te exhaust installed today. Had to get an elbow connection made for it to fit. Was a little tight on the header but it got there with a little elbow grease.

It's looking good, too bad you can't get headers that hug the engine a little more though.

Yet that would look nice. I've sanded them backe to give them a brushed metal look. It looks different in real life compared to photos.

More to come. Any ideas on the tank tabs? Thinking of making wooden covers. Any advice is appreciated.

Looks great! Better than mine too

I have that exact same gauge also [Acewell, no?] except the angle mine sits at renders the screen unreadable 85% of the time.

As for the tank tabs, if you plan on ditching the fairings forever, I'd grind them off and bondo up the upper parts contours to smooth the shape out. But I do like the idea of wooden covers also!

Yep acewell 2853. What tyre circumference do your have the speedo set to?

Also does your fuel gauge on it work I have mine wired up but doesn't seem to be working.

Think Im going to just make up so wooden covers so that its street legal (no sharp edges allowed). Will grind them off later.

1840mm should suit you.

I don't know if we have that legality issue here in the states.. Especially since I see so many bikes with screws replaced with spikes... Makes complete sense though!

Think I'm going to paint it black. I've been having so may problems with this project just to get it up and running.

The PNF got jammed, took 3 weeks to get it back from the mechanics. Now I've started working on some cosmetics and had to wait for axle bolts.

Just started rejetting the carbs and the battery has died.

I just want to ride!!!! Haha

Yeah probably. I think I would end up going that route. The exhaust and the fairing tabs on the tank are just dead giveaways in this type of build.

Actually, I'm not sure if you've spent much time riding with it yet, but I probably put ~2500 miles on my 250 after I destroyed all my fairings and the one thing I found that I disliked the most was the defined edge on the lower side of the tank where your knees/inner thighs contact the tank. It was a comfort thing more than an aesthetic.

If you made side panels that could fill in that channel and also tie into the fairing mounts on the tank.. It might help to clean things up a bit.

Yeh I've found it feels a little weird whe my legs are now as well. Don't think it's worth the time or effort to make up more panels haha. Do you have photos/build thread of your bike?

No build thread, but this is the most recent picture I have of it:

Held together mostly by zipties as I only did enough work to make it rideable and not pretty

Unfortunately for the time being it is in a different state so I haven't had any opportunity to work on it but I'm hoping to trailer it up to my current location to work on it as my winter project!

Looks good leed. Winter is the perfect time to tidy up the bike. Just coming into spring in oz and I got my bike to start again yesterday. Rode to work today. Happy days.

Update on my project. It's slowly coming along.

-I've finished the front fender and tidied up the mounting bracket.
-Removed any unwanted tabs and painted parts of the frame.
-Moved the speedo so it's now attached via the bottom of the triple which looks neater.
-Painted the coolant overflow reservoir. Scrapped the shaker idea.
-tidied up the wiring
-home made radiator guard (went for a long ride today and there was a heap of bugs in there so i highly recommend this for anyone without lower fairings.
-moved and painted the horn

I've got some wooden covers on the tank tabs but will be removing them in the future when I have a chance.

Rear seat cowl is coming along and going to get the seat upholstered tomorrow hopefully.

By chance, do you have a full size photo of this shot?

I wanted to compare it against mine to see if I'm nuts or if my frame is crooked! The thing rides perfectly straight, and falls equally to either side. In particular, I'm paying attention to the steerer tube where the fork meets the frame [right in front of the tank].

As an update on my progress, the seat is getting upholstered as I write this. Picking it up tomorrow. Along with that I have figured out how to attach my seat cowl. Might be rocking a pink cowl on the weekend though cause I won't have time to paint it haha!

Thanks guys. I still have some work to do on it but its spring down here so I'm just riding it as much as possible.

I made the front fender with fibreglass. I used a vstar 250 fender as a mould. Unfortunately didnt take any photos.
