GoPro IPOs today

Ticker: GPRO
Currently trading at $30.

Do you guys think they will own continue to lead in the industry?

Besides the price (of the cam), the only other thing I don't like about it is the size. It's pretty big. It's good for cars. But it's not that great on a helmet.

I currently have a Contour Roam2 cam for my helmet. It's a bullet cam. Sleek. The diameter of a C sized battery. About the length of 2 pinky fingers. 720p @ 30fps. Waterproof as well. I purchased it solely based on price and specs. So far I'm happy.

I've seen GoPros on helmets of other riders. But they look cumbersome.

Anyone own both these cams? Your thoughts?

i'm excited to see what Contour can do under new ownership.

gopro's are too big. makes people look like teletubbies with them on the top of their helmet.

I own and use both cams.

GoPro
Better video quality
Longer battery life
Solid company backing for support and replacement parts
The wide angle lens model gets BP vid/shots that the contour has 0 possibility of getting
The mounts are buzzy and shaky

Contour
Easy to use even while in motion and w/gloves on
Swivel lens to change orientation of video
Waterproof without a case under heavy rain conditions, but don't try to sink it to the bottom of the pool, you need the true waterproof case
Battery is only good for about 2 hours of quality video
Sketchy company history for support and replacement parts
gps model is much cheaper than gopro
The mounts are expensive for a piece of plastic with a sticky on the back

I need to get a Sony to try it out.

Lemme know if you have any specific questions.

Longer battery life on the GoPro? My GoPro has less than 1/10th of the battery life of my Contour. They're both good cameras but my number one recommendation for the Contour over the GP has been GP's joke of a battery life.

Yea, settings of equal video quality will yield a longer battery life on the gopro. Of course you can suck the battery dry on the gopro by maxing out the video quality/frame rate settings and vise versa for the contour, add the gps functions for even lesser battery life.

If it's not the settings, you need a new battery. Nothing lasts forever.

Link to original page on YouTube.

the resolution on the black has been turned down in that video but it gives a good comparison of the light adjustments

Hmm, odd. I have 3 GoPro batteries and 3 Contour batteries, I record both at 720p/30fps (I believe, I know I matched them up at a 'decent but low' setting for general recording). The Contour batteries all last about 5x longer than the GoPro, always have. For what it's worth that's my Contour+2 versus my Hero 3 Black.
