Isle of Man, would you?

How many of you, if given the chance would participate in the Isle of man on your 250/300? Remember, there is an average of 2 deaths per year at this race.

No way I would compete in a race, take a ride around the track for a joy ride sure, but not race.

If you watched TT3D they talk about it taking the average racer three years just to remember the track. I forget the number of turns but it's a lot.

I'd race on the 250....with other 250's my bike barely breaks 100mph at top speed, I am not sure the prototype bikes even go that slow?

YES, dear god, YESSSSS!

One of the most important goals on my bucket list is to put down a 120+mph lap on the isle of man, while I wouldn't be able to do that on my 250 or my 300 running the course on either of my bikes would advance me towards that goal greatly in terms of learning the ridiculous mountain course for the supersport/superbike races

It would cut down the amount of years needed to properly prepare for the races by at least a few years. As it is I have a lot of track time to put down before I'm confident enough in my skills to tackle the course at speed.

racing the 250 there wouldn't be too bad with the top speed, just throw on some upgraded brakes in case you forget a hairpin and odds are you'll take the course just fine.

Race? Nope, not now nor ever will be that good.

Ride it at my own level with the course closed off just as it would be for the race? YES!

Go the weekend before the races, it's open to the public and a closed course. Personally, I feel it would be safer to ride the race instead. lol

^ I agree with csmith, the actual race would have less people on the course with a much higher average skill level and you would still get to ride your own pace technically. They'd just fly by you if you don't go fast

the day that someone wins a 200+ mile motorcycle race with only 1000 miles of experience under their belt is the day that giacomo agostini and valentino rossi cry that their achievements won't be remembered into the next few generations.

I've already raced the Macau Gp in china which is pretty close to that style of racing. I even had a misshap and lost front brakes and slammed into the wall sending me to the hospital and almost missing the race the next day. So yeah I'd totally race the TT but I wouldn't waste my time doing it on anything less then a 600 super sport.

I'd race the nerbergring as well if they put one on there.

Well simply put for a few reasons.

1. Your fresh off a RS125 and in your first year of 4stroke racing so 106 hp is what your familiar with.

2. You've never been to an Asian country so wtf is going through your head all the time

3. You've been given factory Yamaha's 2003 championship winning R71(R7 with AMA formula extreme spec'd R1 motor) with a briefly mentioned +220hp(it was kinda hidden in with all the other **** the bike had going on) so yeah wheelie control hadn't been invented yet and probably would have made my life much easier

4. The steel walls surrounding the whole course yeah I had plenty of those rubbing my shoulder on the apex and the slick right hander right outside the auto repair shop, yeah I'll there's some **** soaked in that asphalt.

5. Oh yeah and dodging a stray dog and the 3 hungry looking little Asian men chasing after it when ran onto the course. Yeah I don't know if there's a flag for that

The whole trip was epic in so many ways and even though I nearly died it was worth it.

holy flying **** that must've been an intense moment.

the macau gp is a race that I want to watch live someday but I'm not so sure I would want to compete in it due to the steel walls, at least with the IoM you have the occasional open field. Those courses are completely different beasts though.

sick picture, definitely worth the $125 though I'm surprised that shipping it over cost that much

I didn't ship it, it was on the plane with me. The $75 was just the cost to get it installed into the wood frame.

Macau you can push the limits a bit harder because it's only got like 13 corners so its quicker to learn and become predictable. At the same time the race is a mass start like any other race track so there's more rider vs rider battles going on vs at the TT it's mostly rider vs track.

I don't think I could go very fast on that course. I seem to be way more comfortable on race tracks where I can have better sight lines and memorize the track better.

Nope, my racing days are far behind me. I'd definitely love to watch the racing and ride the course( though riding the course kills more people than the racing).

ssshieeeet.

Quote:
Yamaha secretly developed a WSBK weapon for Nori Haga....the YZF-R7. The R7 was built with similar dimensions as Yamaha's YZR-500 GP bike. They built the racer first, then 500 road versions with lesser-quality OEM bits. Civilian R7 models were sold as race only, to team owners and licensed racers. Asking price was $32,000, and Yamaha did not offer a warranty. OEM bikes were heavily restricted, making only 106 hp. YEC offered modification kits that would bump output to 135 hp (Stage 1) or 160 hp (Stage 3).

Power aside, the R7 is known as one of the best handling bikes in the world....even by today's standards. Frame strength and geometry help the bike to hold a line similar to a GP racer.

Right off the bat, R7 cranks failed from a manufacturing flaw. Crank alone was $4500. There was no factory recall, no warranty, and Yamaha had to come out of pocket to replace cranks free of charge. In addition, racers complained that the need for YEC kits made racing the R7 far too expensive. Many R7 models sat in showrooms well past 2002, heavily discounted. The R7 was expensive to produce, and Yamaha lost considerable money on each one. Last nail in the coffin was Nori Haga's championship loss in 2000 because of a positive drug test for Ephedrine.

Because of Nori Haga's success on the bike, limited numbers, and overall beauty of the motorcycle, the R7 has developed a cult following in the motorcycle world. During the bike's life, there's been many different interpretations of what an R7 or R71 actually is.

1) Because the R7 cost so much, many R1 owners converted bikes to look like the R7.

2) Many R7 owners yanked fragile motors, and modified the R7 frame to accept an R1 motor.

3) Stateside, Graves Yamaha entered the Formula Extreme class with an R7 chassis and R1 motor. The AMA eventually banned this successful bike, stating that '50% of the frame had to be from the same bike as the motor'. Graves quickly mated an R1 and R7 frame together, calling the bike an "R71".
badass.

Mad Sunday, the day before rave week they close the road in one direction & let anyone with a bike licence have a go...

Have to agree it's probably safer to run the race than do Mad Sunday, some real lunatics & crash test pilots have a go...
