RIP, I enjoyed his input on many threads and he seemed like a really chill guy. It feels so wrong that he went out because someone else wasn't paying attention particularly since he seemed like a genuinely safety conscious rider.

This hits really close to home.
Proof that even when you 'do everything right' accidents can and will happen. When something like this happens, the first thing people always jump to is blaming the car driver or something about being seen. No matter what you do you can't control the car drivers or expect them to drive logically or safe. You cant force them to see you, hear you or yield the right of way. My heart goes out to this guy's young family. Reminds me to tell my wife and son I love them every morning.. never know when your card is up. |

True, he could have gone faster too and avoided that. Unfortunately we can't change this, we can still discuss though. We have chosen a very risky way of life IF IF IF things go wrong. In a cage we are relatively safe at most speeds. Ride on fellow riders.

RIP Samer.
I really do think that there needs to be harsher penalties for manslaughter due to gross negligence. Many of cases like these actually get bumped down to a mere citation of failure to yield and they get let go immediately. The law has no teeth for situations like this and so the public at large has languished in driving skill. We now have a very common situation where people are now purposely taking their focus from the road and doing whole other engaging tasks such as texting. The excuse of "I didn't see them" is more common now because they aren't even really looking at the road at all. People have lied to themselves into believing that vehicles aren't deadly weapons anymore. That 2+ tons of steel going even 5 mph can kill someone else with barely a thought. I propose that vehicular manslaughter be upgraded to vehicular homicide and assault with a deadly weapon if you kill someone after purposely not paying attention to the road around you. Things like being on your cell phone, running lights, and not yielding which then directly kills someone else should carry with it that upgrade to homicide because they knowingly chose to perform an illegal act that would kill someone else. They do it for other deadly weapons that through very obvious gross negligence caused the death of someone else. Sorry about the crazy long post, just feeling a bit pissed about the news and all seeing as I've faced his exact predicament many times in So Cal and barely survived due to riding like the black helicopters are out to get me. It can be very mentally fatiguing and can kill the mood of a ride real quick. And nearly every damn time I've been taken out in this manner or sideswiped off the road completely, I look over and he/she is on their cell phone and giving "me" dirty looks like I'm the bad guy. |

**** I hate hearing about deaths like this! RIP Samer, didn't know you but still apart of the Ninjette family. Prayers for your family. last pic of him with his son really hit hard, can't imagine what they are going through right now. be careful out there everyone. Can't stress the importance of SMIDSY, I use it all the time and not just at stop lights. May not help everytime, especially with a redlight runner, but it does get peoples attention. been a bad week for deaths. On Saturday my two year old second cousin was accidently run over and killed by his father when he unbuckled himself from his carseat. We never know when it is our time, live life as good and as happy as you can. Laugh as much as possible and spend time with those you love.

Personally I find it easier to accept the risks of my own actions, one of many reasons I am slowly transitioning more into a track rider over time, but we know we need to accept the risks involved from everyone else's actions as well. Life is amazing yet fragile, something I am reminded of more and more each day. I've lost too many friends, both friends that I have had around me and friends who share the same passions as me on the internet. Once again, RIP Samer. Though I never met you, you are missed.

I have all these awesome plans for this year and moving forward with my life and I come back to this thread and sort of get scared that something like this will happen to me because it can happen to anyone on any ride and I will not get the chance to do all the things I'm so looking forward to...

@Finesse the most important part is having no regrets, which so far I have none after 50 years of life, I will not hide and wait for the Grimm Reaper, he's gonna have to work to find me for sure, when my time comes, I will stand tall before the man, and make on excuses.

He was made for me by a friend, I wanted a cartoon style Ghostt, she came up with him, it's been my avatar forever, she thought he looked cute, not scary, then she added the scythe.
