Hey everyone! Recently bought a 2010 Ninja 250R with 2100 miles on it. It was fully stock except, the owner lowered it with RoaringToyz for his wife. I'm not new to bikes but I am new to forums....so that being said, this thread has lots of pictures. If there's a way to resize them into thumbnails and expand when clicked on please let me know :P.

Day 1:

PlastiDip underside of windscreen:

Nekkid!!

Access to gauge for Diode-mod for LED blinkers:

Had handful of 194 LED's so I decided to change out the 3 main ones for backlighting...and no, it doesn't get hot enough to melt plastic:

Stock 194 backlight:

SMD LED 194 backlight:

I followed this thread https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19043 to do a flush mount turn signal but instead of using the stock bulb, I used 194 holders from a Nissan gauge cluster I had lying around:

SMD LED 194 for turn signal. According to Delaware code, turn signals may be any shade of white and amber:

Also removed stock tail turn signals and replaced with Alpena 24" amber FlexLED from AutoZone:

It is an amazing bike. It's my brother-in-law's and I'm not sure if it is the BEST bike ever made. Awesome bike though, rode it a couple of times before I got my Ninja.

You made the right choice. Ninja 250 is the only bike you'll ever need.

Hello and welcome. Awesome turn signal mod. The rear l.e.d. strip turn signals is a great idea.

Drilled few holes in stock exhaust for audibility.

ProjektD eliminators came in as well. Looks great! but needs to be bent a little for perfect fit.

More pictures:

Bought one of those eBay gear indicators and OEM seat cowl...

In case anyone wanted to do one of these...
Red/Blue is 12v when key is ON
Black/Yellow is Ground
Light Green is Neutral

Best mounting spot I can find

Off, Neutral, In Gear

No pictures of gear 2-6 since it's 3AM and cant really start my bike but it works...have the magnet set so that I dont get the magical 7th and 8th gear

I saw a YouTube vid about some guy who installed a gear indicator on his Ninja. He could only get it to display 0-neutral and 1-1st gear. Does yours actually cycle through all 6 perfectly? If so, then I know my next mod.

Yes I can cycle it through 1-6. 1 and 0 when not moving. When I get going and shift up I go from either 1 to 2 or 0 to 2 depending on whether I'm in gear or in neutral. From there 2 3 4 5 6. So far I havent slipped a gear to get 7 and 8 but when I park it in gears 2-6 and turn of engine, I can cycle it past 6 by pulling up on shifter lever with a little bit more pressure past 6. If any of that makes sense. I'll borrow my bros go pro and take a video after this weekend.

Do you think you can also get in video where you set the magnet at? Thanks man!

The sensors are about 23mm apart. The magnet is taped to the nut of the linkage, perfect spot for it.

I apologize for shakiness, had to use my phone.

Hi Eric, here is a link http://twofiftymag.com/2012/11/max-m...rmiling-guide/ to an article I wrote on motorcycle hypermiling that you can read for tips on how to get great fuel economy without going to complicated modifications. Also check out my aerotrunk project in the Cargo section for tips on setting up an efficient , non-radically streamlined Ninjette.

Hi!

Nice electrical mods you got going on there. I am looking around for a Gear Indicator for my wife's ninjette and I like your install. Is your bike the Fuel Injected model? If it isn't and you managed to find a way to install a gear indicator (cause everywhere I've looked so far says they can only be installed on Fuel Injected models), can you point me in the right direction? What is needed to make a Gear Indicator work?

Thanks SpidermanGeek! I am a Best Buy GeekSquad Autotech and I install all sorts of electrical stuff to cars, trucks, semi, boats and even a few Honda Goldwings and similar Harley's...so I know my way around professionally done mods . My ninjette is carbureted...for now until I can afford the FI kit :P

This is the exact Gear Indicator that I used:
http://r.ebay.com/lqf5lM

Included are: Gear Indicator, 2 sensors and a magnet.

If you look at my pictures regarding the GI, I basically cut a square hole to fit the indicator precisely and sealed it on with silicone. Then I cut the wiring loom to splice in the wiring for the GI and wrapped it all with electrical tape to make it look factory integrated. I ran the wiring for the sensors along the wiring for the left side turn signal. On one of the pictures you can see where I mounted the sensors and the magnet. For the sensors I used [outdoor rated] 3M double sided tape. For the magnet I stuck it on the nut for the shift linkage and wrapped it with enough electrical tape.

Finding the sweet spot for the sensors so that it shifts up and down perfectly without skipping took a few hours of adjusting and riding around the block. Things that I ran into when I was adjusting sensors:
-Shifting up skips 2+ gears on indicator
-Shifting down skips 2+ gears on indicator
-When shifting from N to 1st gear, indicator still reads 0
-Shifting up after 6th gear reads 7 and 8 on indicator

Thanks for the response. I had dug around a little more after posting and ended up finding the GI kit. I got it for 18$ CAD off of AliExpress.com. Just waiting for the order to come in now.

If you get the chance, could you take a couple more detailed pics of your magnet/sensor setup and post'em up?

Thanks for posting that you put them 23mm apart though, that will help with the initial placement during my install.

You're thread here, plus the DIY GI install available elsewhere on ninjette will go a long way in taking a lot fo the guesswork out when installing it myself.

I already warned the wife that it probably won't be accurate 100% of the time, but for under 20$.. it's not like it'll never be useful to her either.

Since my last post I've done a couple more things:

-Modified my garage remote and integrated it (no pictures of actual remote used but it's a basic Genie) hooked it up to a relay so it only works with the key in on ON

-$20 eBay smoked double bubble windshield. Looks and fits perfect.

Got a new helmet :P HJC IS-MAX BT...dealership hooked me up for $100
