I love these old school bikes! That said, it seems a bit pricey. Especially when a new 300 is so much cheaper. Apples to oranges, I guess.

Having had the pleasure of riding the original XT and SR 500s when they were new, and owning an FT400 (for a short time), I think you'll really need to want an old fashioned bike to buy the 'new' SR. It does have EFI which should assist starting, but believe me kick starting even a mid sized 4T single is a pain.

I really love FI, electric start, modern tyres, etc.

So how about that 2015 SR400?

So what do you guys think about the 2015 Yamaha SR400?

I love the look of the bike, but that price.... maybe for $1000 - $1500 less.

I think I'm developing a bit of a I want them all syndrome...

Overpriced, you could get a used bike with similar specs for much less. Also kickstart only sounds cool until you're in a situation where you need to start the bike quickly and it doesn't want to start.

I know I could get a used one for much cheaper, but to me this would have all of the "issues" worked out all ready so it would be ready for customization. But for almost 7,000 out the door...

They are pulling a harley trick. Put out a cool looking bike with minor updates and charge through the nose to make it desirable

I think it's a great looking machine and I could really see owning one - but the rumoured price is $6000 US !!

C'mon, that's ridiculous. I get that this bike is built in Japan rather than Thailand or China so labour costs are more, but very, very few riders are going to buy an air-cooled single with 30-year old technology when they can go buy a Honda 500 liquid-cooled twin for less money.

The price is way, way too high.

Does it include ladies like the one in the picture?

Not a huge fan of the bike, especially at that price. I like a bit more wind protection. Also somebody mentioned kick start...why would they put kick start on a 2015 model year motorcycle with that high of a price?

It's priced at $1000 over a new 300. I think $1000 less than a 300 would be a more logical price point.

Pretty sure a kickstart would be more reliable than a electric start...not sure, just seems like that in my head. But I haven't slept in two days...so, im probably wrongg

You got that right! I bought my KLR250 last December: kickstart only. Even with boots on, I've bruised the bottom of my foot and badly sprained my big toe. And that's on a 250cc with compression release, ferchrissake! And it starts relatively easily!

If you get a kickstart bike, wear serious motocross boots with a really stiff sole (Aerostich Combats work ok, but buy them used because of the price...).

Can't compare it to a Ninja 300 or any sportbike for that matter, the SR400 might get you laid, the Ninja 300 not so much. This bike is all about image, numbers and specifications don't really matter in this genre of motorcycle. Just cruising around and having a good time is what it's about IMO.

It's nice to have both especially if your battery is almost dead.

I think with this bike being fuel injection and what not the kickstart will probably be super easy. Not like kick starting and old 2 stroke dirt bike.

Looks cool but with you guys talking about $7000 out the door it really turns me away from it. I would love me a CB1 which is a 400cc Honda 4 cylinder. =0 Or just the 390 Duke.

I prefer the look of the Honda CB1100. The Yamaha looks a little too tiny. I do like the idea of the kickstart on the Yamaha, but I would rather have both an electric and kickstart.

I remember when the original SR500 came out. Whilst this one is much improved with EFI, and no doubt updated suspension, tyres etc it seems an awful lot on money for something which must be dirt cheap to produce.

As I recall kick start only is great unless it's cold, your bike is hot, or you've just stalled at the traffic lights.

I lived with seventies bikes, and I just can't see the appeal of a modern reproduction.

Yea, but the smallest sportster is an 883. They come in 883 and 1200. That's a LONG way away from a 399cc. Also... Sportsters are larger, they have bigger tanks, they are all fuel injected and they cost roughly $12,000 out the door. That's a lot more expensive than this Yamaha. To me.. this bike is overpriced. You could get a very cool retro Royal Enfield for the same price. There are also a few small Triumphs that are very retro looking for similar prices.

new middle displacement yami coming to states.

Saw this short article in Roadracing World News. Been in production since 1978. Coming to the states the only change is fuel injection. Its cool that we are seeing smaller displacement bikes now. Maybe the general idea in the USA is changing from its got to be big.
