Inexpensive rear stand?

I'm looking to pick up a rear stand to hold my Ninja during basic maintenance (tire and oil change, oil chain etc). I'm kinda surprised at the prices I find.

I see Pitt Bull stands for $150, which seems high.

I found these on Amazon for $60 for a front and rear.

Does anyone know a good rear stand for like 50-60 bucs? Or is that not realistic?

Harbor Freight has em for around $25. Cheaper if you have a coupon.

There are certain things where quality isn't that important. Riding gear isn't one of them, and in my opinion neither is equipment you use on your bike. Saving $200 by buying a cheap set of stands instead of something quality might sound nice until they collapse while you've got the bike up on stands and you're having to replace cracked plastics (or worse) ...

I can't speak to the quality of these stands themselves but don't forget, usually cheap = cheap. I have Pitbull stands. A little on the spendy side but they are well built and I have no fear of them failing when I'm using them.

If you really need to save a few bucks, try looking around on Craigslist for used ones. A good quality stand should still be a good quality stand when it's being sold second hand.

Vortex can be less expensive than Pit Bull, and I've been using my Vortex for almost 6 years now with no issues (multiple bikes). Black Widow is also a good brand for front and rear.

If you ever plan on doing fork maintenance, don't get a front fork stand, get a stand that lifts at the stem.

I am 100% for pit bull stands yes, they are worth every penny and the resale value is near purchase price.

But here is some real talk. I have beat the sh*t outta my HF rear stand in the pits and at home in the garage for the past 2yrs with HEAVY usage. They work, plain and simple. One of the best purchases for $25 bones I have made.

+1 on Vortex stands. I got a set off of ebay when I bought my 300. I made sure to get the combo that came with a front stand that lifts the bike at the triple tree so that I can work on the forks if needed. I think I paid a little over $100 for the set.

I've used the rear stand many times, and the front stand for the first time last weekend. So far they have worked perfectly, and I see any reason that I shouldn't get many years of use out of them.

+1 on the HF stands. I used to have the 1st one linked for about a year and never failed on me. I never felt uneasy about having the bike on the stand.

Personally, I think a fork stand is a waste of money regardless of the brand. Why? Because it isn't useful for half the things you need a front stand for and a triple tree stand works even better for the things a fork stand can do.

I use harbor Freight in the rear, Lockhart-Philips in the front.

I bought the aluminum one used from here, two bolts were stripped not sure if previous owner stripped them or if happened from overloading the stand with a big bike.
I would go with the black metal one, cant see how that would fail with a mere ninjette on it.

@choneofakind - don't you have this stand? If so, can you give your take please. I am kinda unsure on paddle stands but would pick up one for the dirt bikes if they are adjustable enough and will hold up to the abuse I surely will give it. lol

I have a set of Trackside stands that look just like the ones linked by OP. I got them for $90 shipped. They're not the highest quality, but they work well enough for my occasional use in the garage. I don't think I'd want to use them every weekend in the pits, but they're fine for jobs where I need to lift the bike up.

My set came with interchangeable rear stand inserts, for spools or directly on the swingarm. The pads were nice since the 500 doesn't have spool mounts, but since I put the 250 swingarm and spools on, I prefer that - it just feels more secure.

I agree that the front fork stand isn't all that useful for anything beyond the wheel. I can't think of any situation where a neck/triple stand would be inferior to a fork stand, and it's helpful in more situations.

There are some horror stories on EX-500.com about the aluminum HF stands collapsing.

Watch craigslist in your area for Pitbull Stands, I've bought at 4 or 5 off there for under $100 each, if not cheaper.

Completely worth it. Think I have 8 right now.

its not the best stand. but it works. one of my wheels broke so i took it off. it still works fine, and it has taken a very large amount of neglect and abuse to it. but for some bent up pipes with little spool brackets, it doesn't need to be complicated. if you aren't planning on using it many times a week, just get the simple one

I called my local harbor Freight and they have the black on for 29.99 in stock. I'll pick it up next week.

I don't think I'll be using it that often so I don't need a fancy rear stand.

CL some nice stands. Just keep and eye out , someone will sell their bike and then sell the stand separate for like 80 bucks

I have, and really like, T-Rex stands.

Made in the US.

Quality is excellent.

And I'm with CZRoe... front fork stands aren't really worth it. I originally got the T-rex fork stand but have since picked up the triple adapter kit and haven't put it back the other way. (another nice thing about T-rex is that you can swap things around like that... the rear stand can work with or without spools).

Check 'em out. Highly recommended, good deal.

I also have their frame sliders on my GSXR. They're unique, beefy, don't require holes in the fairing and don't look like freakin' baby food jars. They integrate so well into the styling that you don't even notice them. They have a similar, very attractive setup for the 300.

Well I picked up the Harbor Freight Swingarm stand and I was able to use it to lift my rear well and oil my chain.

Of course I had several visions of me dropping my bike but I managed to avoid any tragedies.

I've pretty much only used Pit-Bull stands. I know folks here have had good luck with the T-Rex stands as well.

Anything that bears this amount of weight I would not go to Harbor Freight for.

I will say that ANY rear stand is usually better than improvised solutions. (Ask me how I know.)

I got my trackside spool and swingarm stand from cyclegear for like 50 bucks. It's held up fine ever since I got it last fall. The bike has sat on it for long periods as well.

Just have to watch craigslist like a hawk. This one was up there for so long because he didn't use pitbull or really any normal phrasing that I (or anyone else apparently) typically use when searching for stands on craigslist.

i have a set of mj moto gear stands, a rear spool and a front triple tree stand. They work great. Changed the fork springs and oil on my sv with both of them. No issues.

I got a set of no name front and rear stand that looks exactly just like the Venom Accessories stand. I purchased the Venom triple tree stand adapter from Amazon and it fit together perfectly. Holds the bike up pretty good in my opinion. I think the price from amazon is good too. The no name set of stands that I got last year cost more than the price from amazon. I don't have spools on my bike so I had to get the swing arm adapter.

Pit Bull stand would definitely be the best, but I couldn't justify paying the new listed price for it. Whenever I see one on Craigslist, they disappear quite quickly too or the person is asking for close to the new price but in used condition.

I didn't feel like putting the bike up on a cinder block and 2x4 to change the front tire any more.

I've used expensive PitBull stands and cheapie HF and trackside stands. The PitBull stands look hella nice but I've had all kinds of bikes on and off the other stands. Heavy ones, light ones. People have sat on the bikes and wiggled around while on the stands. They all held up well.

The main thing I fimd is the preference of the design of the stands. I like that some have a handle you can push in so you don't accidentally trip over it. I also prefer to have the front stands with the rotating pad instead of the 2 pins that have rubber coating.

Example of why I wont use cheap stands. When you bolt stands together the slop in the holes for the bolt to go through allows it to bend.



If your going to go cheap, buy one that's welded together.
