New guy here

Hey there. Completely new rider here and by new, I mean as of Friday night, I've never even sat on a bike and now four days later I'm cruising around the neighborhood trying to get a feel for it.

I'm an ex-game developer here in the Austin area and have been here for about 5 or so years now. I actually bought my bike yesterday (2006 Ninja 250) for $1700. It has some cosmetic damage which I plan on fixing which is how I found this site to begin with, but here a couple things wrong that's in the works and by works, I mean I gotta do more research before buying something.

Front turn signals dangling or very loose and faded - Will be replacing with flush signals

Back turn signals dangling or very loose and faded - Thought about using a fender eliminator kit to fix this issue. Still researching how those work

Fairings are very faded and sun damaged - Researching the best way to resolve this issue. Looks like there might be some wax type stuff that'll bring back the color. Thought about just getting all new fairings and a gas tank as I'm really fond of my white vehicles (all cars I've owned have been white) but that seems to be pretty expensive

I know it's a bad picture but:

Welcome Phil!

New white paint could be cheaper/easier than buying new fairings and you will get exactly what you want in the end. I honestly wouldn't worry about it for a while, ie... you get your n00by drop out of the way. Heck, maybe the ninja is not the right bike for you. Sounds like you have a plan for the rest and maybe sign up for a MSF course in your area.

Good luck, enjoy and ride safe.

Yeah. I thought about spray painting them as I've done it with a few interior pieces on my car and it came out nicely, but this will come after a couple months of getting used to the bike itself

As for the MSF course. I've took one this past weekend assuming we are talking about the same thing.

You need riding pants and boots. Below the waist is were the most injuries occur.

Should have said, "This bike came with flip-flops and shorts so I'm all set, right?"

Always nice to see more people getting into the hobby;
fair warning- it's quite addictive

My "drug" of choice is what I always tell people

Have you considered plasti dipping your fairings?
It is low cost and durable...might be worth considering.

I agree with everyone on the gear, please consider at least kevlar jeans and some over the ankle riding boots.

Have fun, stay safe, and ride hard.
