Coolant drain bolt. desperately need help

I was working on my jet kit yesterday. Everything went well until I decided to flush and drain the coolant. I ended up screwing in too hard and the bolts head came off. Any suggestions in removal? Mechanic isn't open today or Sunday so my next day I can go is next saturday. I need the bike to commute. Any help would be really appreciated.

Mine seems different than what you posted though. It's much smaller and it's deep within the hole please look at the picture

Still, the solution is the same: a stud extractor after careful drilling.

Try starting with the smallest diameter drill bit that you can find and as centered as possible.

If the initial hole is perfectly centered you can get the remains out by increasing the drilled diameter alone.

If you have a left hand drill bit, that may do the work.

Get yourself to the hardware store and get a reverse drill bit , harbor freight sells a kit for like $20, as you drill the reverse action may back out the bolt so go easy in case it seizes to prevent the bit from sapping- and use some oil once you get the bit started to avoid overheating the bit and dulling it.
Should be nice and easy.

Good luck! Also, go buy a torque wrench so this never happens again!

Would a reverse drill bit work that well on something so small?? I'm scared of screwing this whole thing up and making it even harder to remove if it fails having to ultimately bring it to a mechanic.

I'm totally up for doing it. But would it work on something so small?

You referring to the size of the bolt saying it is small?

If so, yes, it will definitely work on something of that size. Ive used reverse drill bits on smaller screws/bolts and they work like magic. Go to your local hardware store and tell them exactly what you want to do and they will get you the correct reverse bit.

The drain plug may be specially treated to prevent corrosion. I would stick with the OEM.

My local home depot doesn't have one. Could I use a regular metric bolt until the oem arrives in the mail?

Yes but if you can get Stainless you'll been fine as well as the OEM. Don't forget the copper washer that was on there.

I thought I bought stainless steel. But it's actually zinc. Should be good for a few days I hope?

Totally fine don't even worry a little. The antifreeze you use is an anti-rust agent anyways.

OK first off. Thanks to all of you who suggested and took time out of your life to give me a virtual hand. You don't know how much I appreciate it.

I bought one of those screw extrators. Didn't even use it though. I drilled a hole and was going to use the left handed drill but like you all said. I didn't even have to do that either! I saw that the bolt was loose after a bit of drilling. The standard drill bit in reverse did the trick ( had to wiggle the bit a little)

But it's all done now. New bolt, old washer, full of coolant, jet kit I can't wait to ride it tomorrow and see how she feels. thanks again to all of you. I was a 1 post member. Now I'll pay it forward. Cheers !
