Unhappy Dead battery, could you please suggest anything??

Alright.. so the story is, the retard I am left the key in the ignition turned on all night and the battery is completely dead, flat, ziltch, gone. Id go to turn it again and no lights nothing would come on.

My friend is offering me a car charger to borrow from him, so would that work if I used it on a bike battery?? If so, how many amps should go through the bike?

Model is Kawasaki ninja 250r 2010 model.

If you can change the amps on the charger, use the 2amp setting.

If the battery won't take a charge, replace it with a Yuasa AGM battery. Top quality, lasts for many years (if you don't leave the key on again ) and is cheapest in the long run.

FYI the proper charge rate should be about 10% of the total capacity of the battery, which if my memory serves me right is about 120 CCA, so you really shouldn't exceed 1.2 amps.

You can use the 2 amp automotive charger, but keep a close eye on it.

Wal-Mart carries a nice Charger Maintainer for about $20.00 USD, I have it and it comes with all the goodies as well.

Schumacher XM1-5 Maintainer, 1.5-Amp

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher...5-Amp/15140193

Or a few dollars more you can get a Battery Tender brand, Wal-Mart also carries them as well, but I've found better price on Amazon.com

Battery Tender 021-0123 Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CITK8S..._qotnvb18Z6DTX

If the battery is totally flat, then a nice low rate steady charge is the best, yes it will take a little longer, but it's better for the battery, also if your battery is an non-sealed wet cell, check the levels, if low ONLY USE DISTILLED WATER!!! to fill it up to the full marks.

Personally your gonna need it anyway for off season storage, so pick one up.

Right idea, but wrong spec...

Maximum charge rate should be about 10% of the total capacity of the battery. Cold cranking amps is not the battery capacity: battery capacity is measured in amp-hours. According to Yuasa, the new-gen 250 has a YTX9-BS battery, which has a capacity of 8 amp-hours.

Therefore, the maximum recommended charge rate is 0.8 amps.

Quick discharges and charges are bad for the internal parts of our batteries.
It seems that your discharge was slow because only the small bulbs were left on.

A slow charge of many hours may be your solution, as suggested above.
If your friend's charger delivers many Amps at 12 volts and it is your only option, you could install a 10 watts /12 volts bulb in series with the charger in order to limit the Amps to ideal.

If after full recharge, it continues giving you problems, especially during starting, it is just time for a new one.

I find the few times I drain my battery to zero that my battery tender just wouldn't bring it back even after being plugged in for a day. My solution was to bump start it and ride it around for 30 mins to get that first part of the charge going, then battery tender over night and I was back to 100%.

If the battery is totally flat, it would take a few days, at a low rate of charge.

Yes, Amazon usually has the best prices on Yuasa batteries.
