I was about to post this vid! It's awesome isn't it! There's a go-kart track near me, but I doubt they'd let me on with my bike because of various nanny state laws designed to protect me from myself. I can see how this kind of thing is more common in Taiwan where they have a bit more freedom.

Many of the kart tracks around here are no go on the ninjette and honestly it looks pretty tight for one, but that is awesome.

The kart track near me doesn't allow anything bigger than 100cc unless it's a supermoto.

hmm, would they accept a non street legal 125cc 2stroke dirt bike w/street tires and bigger brakes? The conversion is easy enough to do and would be worth it down the line for the cheap track time.

That's a pretty exciting vid and very interesting because it's somewhere between track and gymkhana. I'm a total noob at gym and never been on a track but the vid makes me wonder at what speed, turn radius, straightaway length gym technique works better than track. I mean...just out of curiousity I gotta wonder if an "average" gym rider could've completed that course as fast as the "average" track guy. Go kart track riding...do you have that over in jersey?

I live about 15 minutes from New Jersey Motorsports Park, which wasn't around when I had my 600 all those years ago.. I do plan on going to NJMP this season though..
I raced karts when I was younger, and even spent some time in an open-wheeled car.. Admittedly, I've never slid my knee intentionally on a bike, because I've lacked the skill to do so.. I intend to change that though.. The thought process of how to attack corners and such on a bike versus a kart are relatively similar.. In a kart, you must shift your weight and look a few corners ahead if you're going to not only be fast, but be safe.. The major difference is obvious, two wheels versus four.. Everything becomes exaggerated on a bike because your going beyond a simple weight shift and adding lean into the mix.. I know I have a lot to learn, and watching/studying videos like this only makes me want to learn more.. I don't want to just RIDE my bike.. I want to EXPERIENCE it as fully as possible.. |

Spent many a night at Raceway park....I still have the hearing damage....jets vs funny...never saw anything so exciting in my life. I dont have the balls or time to go to NJMS so I got into motogym. Seems most of you jersey guys have track experience. Rode with TriStateSportbike crews a few times...I was so outclassed I bought a v Strom. If you're deep into technique...watch a gymkhana vid, braking techniques

I have ridden my 250 at a cart track. It's wicked fun!!!! It's closer to track riding from the skills perspective than gym imho. This is a great way to get your feet wet before biting off a full sized racing circuit. Riding these tiny tracks will teach you 2 vital things; how to steer quickly to set your line and how fast you can move your bp from side to side. (hint hint @Sirref) It was when I rode the cart track I learned; you can flick the bike hard and fast enough to thump your knee on the tarmac. It was that day I said; "I stopped GUESSING what my bike was going to do and TOLD my bike what it was going to do."
I have posted this before; "if you have a cart track that will allow 250's out there, DEW IT!!!!" It's much, much cheaper and shouldn't have the more strict gear and tech requirements, but don't skimp on the gear. A broken bone hurts just the same at 25mph as it does at 125mph. ijs.... And don't make the same mistake that I did, GET VIDEO!

There's a kart track 10 minutes down the road from me and it's a nice facility but extremely underused. They had a few supermoto track days a couple summers ago but that's it. They wouldn't let me take my 500 out on the track and I don't think they'd let 250s out there either. I guess it's under new ownership or something because guys used to take their 600s out on it for kicks n giggles.

Visited the most "local" kart track I know of that allows mini bikes (in the car passing through unfortunately) last week. Seems like a pretty nice facility. I am itching badly to get out there.

And btw the track is here : http://www.kartingasia.com/kart_trac...cuit-t259.html And the rider never was going as slow as 20 km/hr, more like 40-60 km/hr |

I wrote What has ("lowish") speed got to do with "difficult lean angles / speed" ? You described what happens with any turn. From what I've read re: lean angles, the lateral forces are the same for a 45 degree turn, whether it's 22 mph for a 40 foot radius, or 50 mph for a 200 foot radius, etc. Last futzed with by mst; August 6th, 2015 at 05:47 PM. |
