Red face Leaving

Sadly I am leaving the Ninja family. The new 2015 Yamaha FZ-07 has captured my heart! Traded blue in last Wednesday and picked up the new bike. I'll blame it on getting old and the upright riding position so much more comfortable and I think the new bike is so damn sexy! Mid-life crisis maybe I'll be back!

I'm still week in the knees over it! 3 times the HP and only like 20 lbs heavier. Have to be careful!

Congrats! You can still stick around. We won't hold a grudge for getting rid of the 250 though.

Michelins were stock. Not sure which ones they are, they are always spinning around and I have to pay attention to the road! LOL I'll get the full name off them tomorrow.

Yamaha has done a fantastic fantastic job of this bike!

Don't feel guilt. I am looking for a clean VX800 and when I find it.....
I have had the Ninjette in the background for 20 years now while 3 biggies have come and gone but I can no longer afford to run 2 bikes and to be honest I am fed up with stupid niggling little problems with the ninja, and since joining the forum I realize I am not alone.
Ten reasons you made the right decision:-

1 carburation idle fluctuation problems, recurrent
2 warm up time
3 unique tire size problems
4 PITA valve adjustment Both exhaust valve access and the rocker "ears" problem
5 PITA water in the tank from rain leaky filler cap
6 PITA airbox to carb connectors (exacerbated by regular teardowns due to 1)
7 No prime setting on the fuel tap
8 Exhaust headers that were rusty as a bran flake within 2 years
9 Clonking under heavy braking that even replacing forks did not stop
10 A two stroke like imperative to have the throttle wide open or it behaves (and sounds like) a Honda c 90

(does that make you feel better about your decision )

LOL I guess but the only issue I had from above is item 2! And that's a given with a carb! Ninja was great and broke my heart to let her go and not try and hang onto her but two bikes makes infinitely less sense than one bike does here in the north country! LOL

exactly why I sold mine for the older sister (zx6r)! Love that bike though, if only I can afford to maintain 2 bikes...

Welcome to the FZ club! I have a FZ6 myself.

I'm really digging the FZ07 and FZ09, test rode the 09 a couple of weeks ago and loved it. They had one FZ07 there but sadly it wasn't to ride. I hear the power is adequate and the throttle is much better than the 09. I love the look as well. I'll probably end up on a 09 in the next few years.

Enjoy you new bike!, but be sure to stick around.

Btw, I can't believe they still have those huge christmas light looking blinkers. Yamaha must have order 10 million of them or something.

It's easy to make a SS weigh less than a stock ninja. Hell, the cat weighs in at 8-10lbs on my r6. Just start taking crap off ya don't need and boom.... ya weigh less.

Like what, bodywork, lights? 10 lbs is one thing, but 40 lbs is a lot of weight to shed. Plus the 300 can easily lose 20 lbs.

Naw... but I did say a STOCK ninja. So refer to the below image for a 64lb weight loss program for an r6. Hell, 20lbs between the exhaust and battery alone, and check the chain!!!

I've been putting my ninja through a weight loss program too. Crazy numbers on that R6 man. Good work!

nice!

I just recently off-loaded my ninjette, and debating between the FZ-07 and 09. I think it'll have to come down to a test ride.

Couldn't the same be done to a 300 though?

Btw, the Carbon wheels aren't as expensive as I had thought. Just looked them up, at $3,500 - $4,000 for a set they don't cost that much more than bicycle wheels.

I would imagine you would be happy with the 07 if you don't have experience with bigger bikes. I hear it's much easier to ride and I bet it makes better around town power than a I4 600cc.

Awesome looking bike! Congrats. The FZ-07 is on my list as a 2nd bike =) How's the throttle? Is it twitchy? My buddy has the 09 and I felt it was too snappy for my liking. Hopefully that's not the case with the 07.

Pks report back with your impression of the bike after you rack on some miles =)

Not twitchy at all just had to get used to the additional power. The 7 is being hailed as a better choice than the 9 in many articles.

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/fi...07_first_ride/

Love love the bike it was the perfect move mostly due to ride position. The issue that I am going to get lots of tickets on it will be the issue! Waaaaay too fun!!!

I test rode one last week and it wasn't twitchy at all, very smooth.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. When I rode my buddy's 09, I didn't like the sudden jolt when I slowly cracked the throttle open from its fully closed position. I'm glad the 07 doesn't have this issue!

Also, what's your take on the placement of the ignition (key hole)? If there's no windscreen there, that area is going to be a mass graveyard for bugs!

So I had googled dry weight - wet weight the ninja has the GSXER beat . must be fluid capacities

Dry weight was just 163 kg (359 lb) [2] making it one of the lightest GSX-R's ever produced.
2004 GSXR 750 - 359.4lbs dry
2013 Ninja 300 - 362 dry

Curb weight
GSXR 434.3
Ninja 385

according to my google searches.

any way my gsxr feels lighter and has ~147 hp before all the mods
Aluminum links, kick stand, fender elim LED signal taillight . Full exhaust , K&N
and it cost me half of what my GF paid for her 300.

I love the 300 but I get more for less with what I have now.
I just got an insurance bill for 700$ so maybe I need to do some re calc work since I could buy a bike after three or four years of that premium

Now that I read all the information about my bike all over again and since 2004 the GSXR has stayed roughly the same weight with the same HP and only slight changes to suspension and breaking(maybe big changes to EFI mapping?) I am thrilled with my bike
I have about 1500$ into purchasing it and another 200$ into parts(I shop cheap)

Only mods I have bought- K&N , Sintered pads, Kick Stand -it came with all the other goodies.

Agreed, but I really would like to ride both.

I don't need high top speed, but I want a motorcycle that can at least match the acceleration of my modified wrx. The 07 might be right on, and the increased fuel economy of the 07 might just push me over the edge.

I'll probably be waiting until fall so I can try to get a good deal.

Most bicycles costs around 4,000 - 10,000 new and rock 4,000 wheels.

An R6 is actually 11,000.

You can't really compare a used high mileage R6 to a brand new set of wheels.

I bet the wheels are less used.

You could probably set an R6 up with all those parts for less than a european super bike.

Yes the bug collector area one of my biggest concerns. I love the look but may have to get the small Yamaha screen for that area. I don't want to change the look of the bike too much!

Congrats, I know how you feel. I recently rode an old R1, other than being on my tipy toes, it felt great. I don't know why people are making a big deal about the weight of a bigger bike, the R1 felt light and quick. Keep us posted on your new bike.

What's not proper about his turn signals? Are you suggesting he should replace his bright OEM signals with hard to see aftermarkets?

I am suggesting replacing fugly stock signals with bright and awesome arrow-style LED signals... there is a very nice aftermarket option as well as Yamaha's own, sold as an accessory.
