Ah, crap....she hit me.

Wife and it were out for a ride Saturday. I signaled a left turn, and was braking, and she didn't see, she hit me as I was in the turn. Her foot hit my axle and broke the 5th metatarsal and. Destroyed 2 tendons. Se got out of the hospital today after emergency surgery. I have a bruised leg and sore neck.

We were both fully geared up. If she has not had her boots on, she might not have a foot, or maybe missing some toes.

Another reason to pay attention, and always wear your gear!

I rode both bikes home, her brand new Versys needs some parts, and I'm going to make a new fairing for my KLR.

Thank you Joe Rocket, first gear, Klim, fly and power trip!

Thanks all.

Her foot contacted the nut on my front axle. That's what tore the boot and her foot. We both went down. I was almost stopped. She was not, she slid with her bike a good 20 feet.

It doesn't sound nice, or compassionate, or anything of the sort, but if she had hit me any earlier, we would both be in the hospital, because my leg probably would have been crushed. As it is, I think her right leg, or the versys hit my left leg. I've been down a time Or 2, and I've not been hurt this much.

From now on, she rides in front!

Praying for a quick and speedy recovery.

Heal up fast!

I had a friend almost do that to me once, he didn't see my signal and as i was about the turn right he flew by on my right. Luckily it was my first time riding with him so I was watching him like a hawk and realized he was not slowing down.

thanks all! She is at my parents house, hobbling around on crutches now, while I'm in a GM Plant in MO!

The KLR headlight fairing was ripped half off.

I did sit on a '14 V strom and a '15 Versys yesterday though.....

Sh!t happens and bikes can be fixed or replaced. Good job wearing the right gear. I never ride without boots and cringe every time I see someone riding in sneakers.

that sucks, best of luck with recovery

you don't want to mess with your 5th metatarsal since it's so important to balance, so doc's orders should definitely go here

I would not ride with him and if I was his friend I'd tell him straight up that he is clearly not able to safely ride on the road yet and is very likely to get killed or injured.

This is why I don't like being around other bikers on the road. I don't know if they're going to try and share my lane with me, so I get really distracted checking my mirrors constantly and not devoting enough attention to what's in front.

Maybe I'm just not well practised?

It probably looks stupid, but when I'm passing junctions and round-a-bout on ramps, on busy/fast roads on my bicycle I do a big, full-arm wave to the driver at the junction. The more weird and stupid I look the more likely I got their attention so they don't squish me

This is what I aim to achieve in the driver:

I'm very sorry about your crash, I hope your wife and you heal quickly and are able to return to riding soon. I agree with @akima about usng hand signals to help ensure that those those behind know our intentions. I don't mind being closely followed by another motorcyclist but only if I know that they are good , attentive riders. If not, I'll either get them to increase their following distance or let them pass.
Best wishes for a swift and full recovery.

^ that was @tfkrocks not me. I use them to people in front - and I do more of a spazy wave than a hand signal

Haha, perfect. I was communicating very well. Signaling, braking, AND taking to her through the Sena. Who knows what happened. But it happened, so here we are. Got the bike straightened out a little bit, mounted the SW Motech rack, waiting for the GIVI bags to show up! Next up is crash bars! Lol

It was a middle aged gal that hit the guy. Luckily neither of them was hurt.

She says that she's a returning rider with five years of experience and a few years off until recently. She said that she was looking in her mirror when things got out of control. I don't often do group rides and won't ride in front of her, ever.

Dunning-Kruger strikes again.

Ride on,
