Cleaned the air filter. Was a bit overdue. Oops.
Also I realized that I hadn't been very good at keeping service records. I had missed writing down the last couple tire changes and couldn't remember if I had ever changed the spark plugs. Just searched and I did in fact change them and posted about it here. Apparently I keep better service records on this thread

7500 mile maintenance! Was a little intimidated at the prospect of tearing it open and checking the valves but thanks to the helpful DIY's on this site it was .. well, maybe not quite a breeze, but no big deal either. Got lucky and everything is still in spec so no adjustments necessary.

Got her running!
Bolted on rebuilt carbs Changed oil filter and cleaned filter screen. T6 rotella Checked valves and plugs, good. Bent foot pegs and mufflers into place and fixed shifter. Took a bit of cranking to light off but once she cleared out she was purring like a kitten. Haven't even synched carbs yet. Took her all the way up to temp and sounds good, all lights work gauges and everything. Took about five hours two of which were wasted fighting with the air box boots which were hard as hell and I had to boil them to soften up enough to install. |

Good job Graham!
Well I finally had some time to rebuild the carbs. I was having starting issues since it got cold. It would take a while of cranking for it to fire up. I would hear it backfire in the muffler trying to start and then finally it would. Also, oil was contaminated with fuel. I pulled the carbs off and noticed right away that the idle mixture screws were set wrong! they were poking out of the body! Resetted them to 2.5 turns and 2.75 turns respectively. For those that have not figured it out, the idle mixture screw turns are not equal. Next off, one of the float needles had worn grooves to cause it to stick slightly. Hopefully this what's causing fuel to seep into the oil. Need to replace the rubber caps on the vacuum nipples since they're dry rotting too fast. I need to switch to the plastic ones. Rejetted to Dynojet 96 jets from DJ 98s since I swapped back to the stock exhaust header and can. They're the equivalent of stock Keihin 98 jets. Hoping for better than 150 miles to the tank!

Sticking with the FZ. I realized that I like the little bike but have probably gotten too used to the power of the Yamaha too much.
It's just not for me.

Uncovered the bike with wet and snow cleared roads at 39* and went for a ride, amazing what some MMO in the gas tank has done for the gas over the last few weeks of sitting, started and purred instantly instead of turning over for a bit before firing up.

Replaced the clutch cable that gave way today on my way to lunch. Replaced the petcock too, since it would flow fuel without a vacuum.
Last weekend had front springs, sprockets and chain put on. I did the rear shock and chaon guard. Made little tank panels too (to hide the bolt holes) |

The suspension upgrades have been great. My rear wheel would be in the air and spin up at with even moderate bumps. The bike feels much more stable now and still feels comfortable to ride.
New mufflers were today's addition! |

Got my new tires on (Michelin Pilot Street Radials), oil changed and the chain lubed and cleaned. Wow, what a difference in tires from the stock IRC's. I just rode it around the block for a quick jaunt and you can definitely tell how sticky they are in comparison.

Yeah, I was going to be the type of rider who didn't ride in the rain, but I did it on the IRC's. I think I'll have way more confidence in the rain with these PSR's. It's all about pace and going slow in different types of conditions. I got to get the proper gear for rain though.
