Old man tracking a 300
Hey all. Seems like we got mostly 250 riders around here and not a whole lot of 300 discussion, but I thought I'd stop in and say hi.
I picked up the 300 to race in CCS Ultralight Thunderbike. This seems like a great idea to me. The cost of entry and operation is low, and the monetary risk of a destroyed bike is low too. Tire costs are way lower too. On my Triumph 675 race bike, I burn up $400 worth of race tire in just a few days. Other bikes in my garage are a '13 Triumph 675R and a CRF450R Supermoto race bike that gets knobbies put on in the spring and fall, but supermoto wheels and brakes through the summer. I have a couple kick ass world class kart tracks near me. (more on that in a minute) The Triumph is my 2nd one, I destroyed my first one in a nasty racing crash at Road America last year. My new one is just too damn nice, so I am resisting the urge to race with it and I'll just use it for fun track days. These baby ninjas work great at kart tracks, and I'll be running it there instead of my supermoto now and then, mainly as test and tune to prepare for CCS races days at Road America and Blackhawk Farms. Any Ninja 300 track riders in north east Wisconsin? Here's my bikes. Lots of work ahead of me to get the 300 race ready. I'm doing K-tech cartridges in front and Ohlins in the back. Running Dunlop Unbeaten 02 DOT race tires. Needed woodcraft clip-ons to allow me access to the rebound and compression at the top of the fork. This is the kart track where I ride. It's 1.1 miles and 18 turns of prime corner railing asphalt: |

It's a pet project of @csmith12, and it's caught on well.

Welcome John,
It's something I do just for the laughs, fun and to encourage participation on the forum. It's really easy to get one. Just do something cool, unique, funny, or generally bad assed and I will hand create an achievement just for you. Some very active members have collected a few of them. I have since started to add icons and such to them for shits and giggles, so they are not so xbox-ish. It's always up to the receiving member to decide to add it to their signature or not. I have this gut feeling you will be getting one soon enough.

Oooh I want one.
Since I'm on my 5th Xbox 360, I should get the red ring of death. How about "Completed double barrel roll"? |

I didn't think trying to pass everyone on the grass was going to be successful.

Dear John,
Take up golf! It's played on grass (by mostly old men).

Well, I'm still building on the 300, but here's the plan. The parts I have so far are:
K-Tech cartridges fully adjustable Ohlins KA841 rear shock Galfer sst brake lines Vesrah VD 250 RJL pads Woodcraft clip-ons Yoshimura Rearset brackets MotoFairings Inc race bodywork Dunlop Unbeaten 02 tires (will be getting Alpha 13's when they come out) Two Bros slip-on (meh. the bike came with it) About half of that stuff is installed. I am still waiting on the forks from my suspension vendor before I can wrap things up. Some yet to be purchased In the future: Yoshimura full exhaust (sell the TBR can) High flow air filter Power commander with tune for VP fuels MR12 Full floating rotor (maybe, we'll see if I need it) (probably EBC MD4166XC) I was just going to do Racetech emulators in the forks, but decided I needed adjustability since I may be changing tires. I know that on my supermoto, switching from Dunlops to Pirelli tires and back when I can't afford Pirelli, I had to really change my suspension settings for the Dunlops. MR12 is oxygenated, and it's basically like 6 free HP on the 300. Well not "free" because that gas is $30 a gallon. It's also a pain because it has to be drained after use or it eats your fuel system. I will probably get a dual tune and only run MR12 on race weekends. I mainly bought the 300 because the new R3 and RC390 aren't allowed in CCS Ultralight Thunderbike. This race class is a little messed up because it was primarily a 250 class, but they decided to allow the new 300 in it in '13 and that basically started the death of the 250's. Many people still race them, but they aren't competitive anymore and most are making the move to the 300's. The whole situation pissed a few people off and most think that the 300s should not have been allowed. I actually agree, but I bought the 300 to do the best with the rules that I can. My excitement about the R3 and RC390 has cooled since I found out they both had ****** rear suspension compared to the Ninja. Direct link rear suspension isn't the way for a manufacturer to cheap out because there is no way to fix it in the aftermarket. It sucks when the rear shock bolts directly to the swingarm. Ask me about my old Ninja 650 someday, and why the older SV650 is still a way better bike. While I don't ride on the road much, I did scoot around on my 300 a bit and I found it makes a much better road bike than the last bunch of bikes I've owned. I may have to fab up some sort of quick change plate, lights and signals setup so I can go for a street ride now and then. |

Here's the kart track I rip up on my supermoto. USAIR in Shawano, WI. Can't wait to try my 300 there. Perfect track for small bikes. Anyone in Wisconsin, of close by in Minnesota or Illinois should make the trip.
