Harley 750 and 500 entry level bikes

What is everyones first impression of the new Harley models

They have just come up with the 750 and 500 twin entry-level bikes.

the 750 comes in between 6500-7500 and has 56hp and runs a 13sec 1/4mile

Seems like a good power plant but initial reviews of the breaks are coming in as less than wonderful.

Overall I am glad to see more bargain bikes in the market. But I think the style leaves a bit to be desired. they just don't look like Harley Davidson to me

You can't have a HD without phat forks in da front, it's mandatory.

Some folks have been panning the looks. I rather like the way they look.
The reviews seem to agree that it has a very nice engine, decent transmission and handling (for a cruiser), mediocre brakes, and cheap, fiddly switchgear.

I dunno. If you want a cruiser, for about $1000 more than the 750 you could buy an Iron 883 or a Bolt. The 500cc is only $6700 - but then I would assume is significantly lower on power than the 750.

Looks good to me, Good use of curves to imply solidity.
Not Sure about the MZ fork gaiters.
HP is low but I would guess the engine was designed for lazy torque

The bikes are so physically small though, it's awkward. Actually inspired some weird nightmare I had where my dad bought me one and it was the only thing I was allowed to ride, but it was like mini-bike sized and went 40mph. Weird I know...

Anyways, I wouldn't even bother with the 500. Same bike, less power. The 750 isn't exactly a firebreather either, quicker than an 883 though. I know it's not all about power, but this isn't like a 250 where the low power makes it fun because you're doing 13k rpms at like 30mph and it's super light and flickable.

Eh, I wouldn't count on it. This bike isn't comfortable at all. Sport touring bikes are the best for comfort IMO.

I think HD needs to hurry up and come up with a production version of this.

It doesn't need to even have the USD forks, just so long as the keep the price in line the with cruiser version of the 750.

I'm likely the minority on this, but I actually really like it. I'm a stall dude, 5'7", so the smaller size is a-okay for me. I just hope it's not annoyingly loud. It seems like many Harley riders like HD for one of the main reasons I hat 'em

They seem pretty quiet stock. All Harley's are quiet stock though. Maybe not as quiet as a jap bike but still. Their exhaust note is a lot more sporty v-twin than typical air cooled harley potato potato sound. Which is good IMO, I don't really like the sound of cruisers, but a sport twin unnnffffffff

It's ment for only extremely shot people. Anyone over 5'5" is going to be cramped. I actually posted about this a while ago on the hd forums. It also gives a very cheap feel as far as quality is concerned. Nothing like other Harleys

I'd like to give the 750 a test ride, but after having a 96 c.i. superglide for a couple of days,.. I don't think i would like the 750 as much.

How do you stop that? the old hardley trick of all back brake & lay it down if you have to

HD is HD and wont get to new riders until they stop their in-your-face pick pocketing. The young guys dont have money to piss away for a name...like we old guys do.
I had a nice lil' 883 in '03.
The "jiffy stand"...not kick...but jiffy... was, I believe, a $112 option.
The battery cover...a $40 option.
And the crankcase vented to the ham can which dripped oil on your shin but if you traded up to the 1200 it wouldn't be as bad and if you bought a dresser it wouldnt happen at all.
It was a nice bike though
