Picked up a 2007 SV650

I've had my ninjette since the end of January and have put over 2600 miles on it since then. I felt pretty comfortable with it so I was looking for an upgrade.

Came up with this, 2007 SV650 w/ 7.7k miles:

The V-Twin makes such a specific sound. The power...nothing like the ninja 250 obviously. 60 comes fast.

Put new rubbers on it yesterday (Michelin pilot road 4), will probably do the oil this weekend. Soo glad it uses a canister style oil filter vs. the internal filter in the ninja (which I did last weekend).

Ninja's for sale in the meantime. I rode it this morning and still appreciated how easy it is to ride.

Thanks! The first thing I noticed about the SV650 is that it has a digital clock!

Really like the 90 degree V twin riding twistys. Once had a 07 SV650 Standard, and really liked that bike.

Congrats on your SV!

Congrats. Glad you replaced the tires - that would have been my first suggestion.

I've had a SV650n since '06.

Check out svrider.com if you haven't already.

Gratz! I went the same route as you recently (2002 SV-S) and haven't regretted it one single second. Torque, (reasonable) Speed and Sound, this motor delivers.

update!

so after riding it for a few hundred miles, there is only one thing I have against this bike: The front suspension is pretty bad as everyone says it is. I dont feel comfortable in turns and a bump or dip in the road mid corner is pretty unsettling. I plan on replacing the fork oil to a heavier 15wt soon.

other than that, the bike is so easy to work on and ride. I've had several people ask me about it. It's a really inexpensive bike to buy as well! I've also been getting comparable MPG to the highly sprung 250 (~45)

That's a good start, but chances are you'll want to go to stiffer springs. Check out the spring calculator on the Sonic Springs website. The owner of Sonic Springs is a SV owner and racer.

You should be able to get in the 50+ MPG range in-town or on the hwy with the SV. My naked model gets 53 cruising at 70 + and over 50 in-town with moderate riding on ethanol-free 87 with a +1T countershaft sprocket.

If you do a fair amount of hwy, adding a 1T bigger countershaft sprocket helps calm down the cruise, especially when you are in the 70 MPH range. It doesn't give you a noticeable mileage increase, just smoother cruising.

already ordered race-tech 90 kg/mm springs! Will pick up oil sometime this week(end). I would've gone with sonic but amazon has the race-techs for about $95, after shipping the sonics were just a few bucks cheaper.

I guess i'm still figuring out average gas consumption as i've only filled it up 4 times so far. This latest fill up was 56 mpg and that included a run up to Newcomb's Ranch. Better than anything i've gotten out of the 250

thank you for the tips

so i actually did end up going with sonic springs. I put them in this past saturday...first diy job outside of basic fluid changes on the moto. First impressions, significantly less dive from the front end under braking which is much more confidence inspiring when attempting to brake rather hard. I went with a 20wt oil as well to increase the dampening.

took me about 3 hours, but it's fairly straight forward with clear instructions from sonic.

here it is all apart:

fork removed:

All back together (nothing really changed visually)

Good job!

first time DIY and you did the front suspension. that could be intimidating.

I like your sv looks like its modded out nice.
